About The Owners
Wilmington natives Fred and Jim Murray stay personally involved with their projects by spending most of their time at the job sites. By taking on a limited number of jobs, they are able to devote the attention to detail that marks each Murray Construction home.
Fred learned from one of Wilmington’s finest custom home builders, his father. He graduated from N.C. State University with a degree in Civil Engineering Construction Option. After spending 7 years in industrial and commercial construction, he rejoined his father, J. Fred Murray Sr., in residential contracting. In 1975, Fred started Murray Construction of Wilmington to continue the tradition of finely crafted homes.
Jim began working on job sites at age 15. Graduating with a degree in business administration from UNC-Chapel Hill, he then worked in South Carolina providing job cost accounting software and hardware to the construction industry. Jim moved back to rejoin Murray Construction in 1992, became a licensed General Contractor and the third generation of Murray’s in custom home building.
